A very busy July

July was a busy month for the Band with the Annual Concert on 21st and 22nd, followed by a recording session in Oaklands Studio, Nunawading a week later.

The Concert took on a slightly different format from last year’s. Our guest artist this year was comedian Frank Woodley, who did an excellent job of keeping both audience and band members informed, amused and entertained in his role as Master of Ceremonies.

Audiences also enjoyed a variety of instrumental items performed by the band, as well as hearing us accompany talented local vocalists, Greg Whitehead and Janelle Richardson, as they sang The Prayer and highlights from the musicals Chess and Les Misérables.

A new experience for many band members was had the following weekend as we arrived early on Sunday morning at Oakland Studios to undertake a recording session in order to produce our own CD. Everyone was taking extra care to play as ‘note perfect’ as possible, with microphones close by and a limited amount of time to record our best take of each score. We are now looking forward to hearing the finished product in a few weeks.
